I had to share this. My friend Jennifer Hamilton (as Baby Spice in this video) and her group, Avidiva, performed at the closing ceremony of the NZI International Sevens in Wellington this year. I did the Avidiva logo’s hand-lettering (based on Jennifer’s idea) and website (also her concept). Stars in Their Eyes’ (the New Zealand edition) Freddie Mercury is behind them. It’s really cool to see Avidiva do so well from humble beginnings.
I own a Renault. But at least it’s a black Renault.
I am not totally sure what to make of the Rugby World Cup game in Cardiff. Last time I was in France, in November, when folks found out I was from New Zealand while the All Blacks were touring, they said, ‘Ah, New Zealand! The All Blacks! We will lose this week.’ (And they did.)
This was pretty consistent throughout Marne and Paris.
So for the French to pull off a win, not on home turf, despite a defeatist attitude where they psychologically think the All Blacks are better, is a heck of an accomplishment. In that respect, it is a good way to fuel some national pride for them.
What strikes home is that we Kiwis need far better patriotic songs to sing at matches.
At the risk of this becoming the unofficial Laural Barrett website and blog, my colleague Kip Brook in Christchurch sent the above photograph to me and gave me his permission to republish. I am not sure of the event, but we can safely say Ford and Adidas are involved. Red is the colour of the local rugby team, the Crusaders. Focus, Jack, Focus. I’m waiting for Kip to get back to me about what Fiesta this was, and whom Escorted Laural there. It looks like a Popular event and one worth Escaping to.
PS.: From Kip:
The Crusaders presented Laural a jersey signed by Dan, [R]ichie and the boys to go to a big [charity] auction at the Miss Uni pageant in Mexico next month. The guy in the photo is Crusaders marketing manager Tim Blake and the other woman is Crusaders promotions manager Brooke Freeman.
