My friend and distant relative May Yan contributed to this new book on Chinese cuisine, called Eating Stories: a Chinese Canadian and Aboriginal Potluck. It’s important for those of us in the diaspora not to lose some of our good eating habits and knowledge about traditional cuisine, and to be able to pass them on to the next generation. The way May described this book, it’s the sort of thing that I would regard as vital for my own well-being!
This was unexpected: the whole Soylent Green movie starring Charlton Heston, online.

There are some disturbing elements in this dystopic movie, such as references to the greenhouse effect and the destruction of soil by humans.
On a night when The Apprentice (the UK version, which is less panicky and fraught than the one with the Donald) and Granada’s Hell’s Kitchen is on, did Mark Burnett consider combining the shows?

Each week, the contestants are set to make certain things. In the boardroom, the loser is told that (s)he has to go and work at McDonald’s instead of his or her own $1 million restaurant.
Instead of going off in a cab as at the end of The Apprentice (the original one), the loser is shown going in to a local McDonald’s, being welcomed by a character known as the Ronald.
Considering NBC has done a crap job of promoting Journeyman, I should pitch this idea to the network. It sounds like its cup of tea, or pack of fries.
What's your favourite thing to drink when it's cold outside?
Daft thing to ask in summertime. I could really do with a mango nectar.
Ceji has some great tips about eating and weight, and I thought it was very no-nonsense. Although she discusses them in the context of a gastric bypass, I can see it having relevance to me, and many others.
The Wellington eating-out guide that appears at Thread today was written by me, but not as an article. It was an email response to Thread editor Megan Robinson about where she could eat in Wellington over Easter 2006. It was, however, published with my permission—she thought it good enough to appear on her site, which I thought was flattering. I also like her intro to me! So if you want to know the restaurants I like in an non-exhaustive list, head over to Megan’s site.
