I know hundreds of millions of people have seen this, but who cares? It’s worth watching again. And again. And again.
This was made before the US presidential election, but Craig Ferguson’s sentiments about the media remain valid. And we shouldn’t need to be “sold” the fact that we live in democracies.
I am glad someone else appreciates Steve Coogan’s Tony Ferrino character out there in YouTubeland. As I mentioned when I first blogged about Tony, this is my favourite of all of Coogan’s creations, but I think he was ahead of his time with the style of humour. As you can see, the show was very well choreographed and Coogan can hold a tune.
Back in the 1990s, Tony Ferrino did not do well by the standards of other Coogan characters and he was seldom seen again. I have not seen this opening since the show was first aired in the 1990s.
By the next day, a public holiday, the mall was pretty dead:
I thought this was awesome news in that the photographer, Giuliano Bekor, shot regularly for Lucire. From the Lucire ‘Insider’ section.

Giuliano Bekor, whose credits include numerous Lucire shoots, photographed Hayden Panettiere for her 2008 Candie’s print campaign.
Hayden Panettiere will star in Candie’s back to school 2008 television, print and online advertising campaign, according to the company. Hayden, who is known as an award-winning actress, activist and star of NBC’s hit television series Heroes can now add recording artist to her résumé.
Following last year’s marketing campaign with Grammy-award winning artist Fergie, the new fall TV commercial will be a direct lift from Panettiere’s first music video, ‘Wake Up Call’, which was styled using Candie’s apparel, footwear and accessories.
This is Panettiere’s second season with the brand.
To coincide with TV, a print campaign will feature Panettiere in a variety of sexy and sweet vignettes as she playfully poses with a piano, behind a beaded curtain and in a club-like setting among others. The ‘Wake Up Call’ video and the Candie’s commercial were shot in Los Angeles by famed music video director Chris Applebaum and the print campaign was shot by fashion photographer Giuliano Bekor, whose credits include Lucire, and created by the Iconix in-house marketing team.
Fans can listen to ‘Wake Up Call’ exclusively at www.candies.com and www.kohls.com/inspire (streaming only) beginning today. The single will be available for download on iTunes beginning August 5. The single is being released by Hollywood Records.
The seventh season of American Idol premières tonight. Will you be watching, or are you over it?
I cannot say I have ever intentionally gone and switched on the TV to follow any Idol show, ever. If it’s on, I might pay some attention to the latest Simon Cowell insults. The best (or worst) bits are on YouTube, such as this:
Poor Keith Beukelær will probably not live this one down for some time. He was the victim of a college prank, with his acquaintances (I don’t think they could be his friends) persuading him that he was fabulous. Mr Beukelær auditioned in the second season, and I do not think his attempt has been beaten in cringe terms since. Once it has, I’ll have to check that out.
PS.: I found one. While Mr Beukelær has the reputation of being the worst, this gentleman, called Red, may deserve it more. Mr Cowell calls it the ‘weirdest’ and akin to a one-year-old’s attempt. When asked if Cowell could coach him, Cowell replies, ‘It would be like coaching a one-legged man to win a 100 m sprint.’
Mind you, if your name is Oscar Pistorius, then you could argue that having two prosthetic legs can allow one to win a 100 m sprint.
What was the best movie you saw this year?
The Bourne Ultimatum beat The Simpsons Movie hands-down.
The re-run of Caddyshack on TV last week beat The Simpsons Movie hands-down.
[Cross-posted] Would you go short? The bob is the “it” hairstyle for 2007 and probably the beginning of 2008, and Ultimate Style convinces one woman to try it out at the Ken Paves salon. The video airs today on the Lucire home page.
[Cross-posted] In the past month or so I have had the pleasure of flying all the main New Zealand airlines: Air New Zealand, the national carrier; Qantas, the Australian airline that has fairly comprehensive services within this country; and Pacific Blue, the Toll–Virgin venture that launched with cut-price services nationally this month. All have online booking, so that at least puts them evenly as far as the computer-savvy folks are concerned.
But taking that aside, how do the airlines fare? You can read more either at the original post on my main blog, or hop on over to Lucire if you want a few more pretty pictures.
