Gretchen Mol living in the future while some virtual reality anomaly happens and people started going back in time to not to 1973, but 1937. Sounds familiar. One of my favourite movies, but I sure didn’t expect its influence to go further …
In all the busy-ness of last week I forgot to mention that the new Gene Hunt, replacing Colm Meaney, is Harvey Keitel—he of the Steinlager Pure commercials here in New Zealand.
He won’t be boozing on much pure beer as Gene Hunt of the NYPD in the Americanized Life on Mars.
I like the idea of Keitel giving the New York version of the Manc Lion a try. He has a very different style which means the American producers are willing to have his unique kind of macho with this casting.
Shooting of the remake of the remake begins August 5 in New York.
I imagine that means late-August trailers will show the new Sam and Gene, and that publicity pictures will be available in August.
Still no word on who has been cast as Annie Cartwright.

Michael Imperioli (The Sopranos) will join the cast of US Life on Mars, according to Entertainment Weekly. The Hollywood Reporter, which broke the news, says Imperioli is the American Ray Carling. This does bode well: it means at least one of Ray and Chris will make it back into the script; the original US pilot had removed both characters.
