Splogs gone for now, but the spammers are still there

Comments

I doubt that this problem can be addressed Jack - As anyone can sign up for an account. Yup. I received the same porno ad as yourself. Just deleted it.
If it’s happening through spambots, a CAPTCHA system (word recognition) could deal with it, which would (hopefully, and in theory) leave only manual entries.
I am getting them now. I hope I can block them.
I got the two spam porno comments in Cyrillic as well. I find Captcha really irritating whenever I'm signing up for something, but I suppose it does serve a good purpose.
Timothy, I hope you can, too, but I am not sure how—let me know if you can find a way.
TCDM16—no milk?
Panda: I agree, CAPTCHA can be annoying. In trying to make it difficult for machines they wind up making it difficult for humans. Apparently, spammers can now crack a third of these.
I hope they can clean it up. I got more spam/porn comments over the weekend though. They deleted the last one I reported but it seems pretty easy for people to just re-register.
I wonder if it’s automated, and with the sophistication of these spammers I imagine that they have plenty of IP addresses and relays at their disposal. I was reading about CAPTCHA earlier today and it appears that the techniques used to get around that are becoming more sophisticated. Maybe it will get so cryptic one day that we have to answer complex questions to be able to sign up to blog, which will then cause a chasm between the information-rich and the information-poor … discomforting thoughts!
