Sir Edmund Hillary, paradigm shifter—who’s next?

Honestly? I see no reason with today's readily-accessible technology why more great mainstream films can't be made in other places besides Hollywood. I'd love to see them get a run for their money.(They might have to start using their brains again instead of just their CGI and deep pockets.) The films don't have to be as epic-like as The rings Trilogy, either. Something unique, inspiring, intelligent, will do. Just no Kiwi versions of American Pie...please
If you looked back to when Peter Jackson hatched his plan, I still had people ask me what Lucire was, and why they should appear in it if they did not even have an email account. I hope that many other countries get to tell their stories (not that Tolkien was one of ours!) for the very reasons you mention, and goodness knows we are ready for a film with a decent story rather than CGI-galore effects.
Now, I wonder just how a local American Pie would go … Sadly, it might be much the same as the original if we ever went down the teen comedy route, since more and more of our teens are getting their cues from American movies.
