QotD: who should pay?

Comments

This is interesting.
This has never occured to me, but I think my insurance covers me when I'm driving another's vehicle. So if I'm driving another's car and I have an accident why should his insurance go up by filing a claim when he/she wasn't at fault?

Jack - I think I agree with you. Surely the person at fault has a moral obligation, even if the driver has the legal obligation?

Zak - may be a country thing. In the UK, whilst many policies cover you for driving cars other than your own, it's only third party - i.e. it'll cover the person/thing you hit, but not the damage to the car you're driving.

Yes, exactly, Rich. I think it is a country thing. At the least the person at fault needs to reimburse the vehicle owner; or be involved in such a way that the owner’s premiums do not go up. It sounds like things are different Stateside.
I know it's different on the Isle of Man then America, sounds like I o M is the same as the rest of Great Britain from reading tall-rich's post. My son-in-law is from the I o M.
I would guess the Manx situation is the same as the rest of the UK.
