QotD: one small act
What small act of kindness have you done in the last thirty days?
Submitted by One Kind Act.
Just one? I gave to a busker. I bought raffle tickets for a kindergarten. I put in some time for a charity. I took garbage for some friends because they weren’t served by recycling people and brought it home to dispose of. I acted as a tour guide to two British friends who had come over. I painted part of a wall for some friends and did a lousy job of it. I drove twice as far to a shop because I wanted it to profit from me, rather than one that sold an identical good that was nearer, because the people in the shop further away were nicer. One of my team had not eaten all day despite having a cold so I made sure she was fed healthily. If we go back 60 days, I gave my parking stub to a total stranger so he could save a few bucks and put it on his dashboard. I put up a roadside sign that had fallen down in the wind for another stranger just because I was walking by and I had a spine and two arms that, gee, I could use. I gave my receipt to a lady at an automated petrol station because the machine wouldn’t give hers out, and mine was for a higher amount in case she wanted to claim on the tax.
In short, nothing special: just the sort of thing I would not mind someone else doing for me if the shoe were on the other foot. In 30 days, people will have done a lot more than one small act of kindness. We would live in a sad place if there were only one that we could recall.
