right... why would anyone assume that it has anything to do with Mexican Independence though? It commemorates a victory in the Battle of Puebla. I'm sure there are people who *think* it's Mexican Independence day, but AFAIK it's fairly well known what the celebration is for.
I did know—the Mexicans beat the French right? But I have heard from someone that it was for Mexican independence, so I decided to address that.

It's the major Drinking Holiday promoted by nearly every bar and Mexican Restaurant in the USA!

Thing is, none of the Mexican Americans I know even celebrate it. September 16 is their big-deal date.
It ranks up there with St. Patrick's Day as a drinking holiday. LOL
