Psycho Missouri cops

Comments

[this is good]
Thanks for telling this story. I have a few stories to tell about police in California. I went to college with a lot of them, because in graduate school I took my masters in management out of the public administration dept.

About 25% of the students were police of some kind. In my opinion, police get too arrogant and over-bearing in general. I had more than one argument with them about case studies and team assignments. I could go on and on.

Thanks for blogging on my site in the past. I have been preoccupied with our election this year, so my posts have reflected this. Take care.

Shameful :-(

Timothy, I believe there is a tendency for some people in the police force to act in an overbearing fashion. It lets down the other cops who are there for the public—the ones who protect and serve. Denise, I agree—a fifth cousin of mine is a cop, and I grew up with numerous sons of cops at high school, and I see how good these families are. These Missouri cops obviously have a short-circuit somewhere in their heads.

Jack, I live in Missouri and I haven't heard anything like this. That's not to say it cannot happen or did not happen, but until I do read something more substantial, I'm having a good laugh. He made a knife and went to a police station to see if it was legal? We do have some small towns where the police have nothing better to do than harass people; doesn't every city or state or country? If you see anything in the news about it, please share it. :)

I have been keeping up with you, just not commenting a lot. I hope you've been well!

If I didn't know if something I made was legal, I would Google it or ask a lawyer. I absolutely would not go into a police station to find out. ;)

Thanks, M.! It was from a very close friend, and it is not one of those forwarded emails, but something that happened that day. I won’t elaborate more as I want to provide them with some anonymity but I can give names and the town where this happened. (It was a small town.) I can probably even get these facts notarized.
We all have rotten cops, sure. However, we do not hear of cops like this here—country and small-town cops are really respected for their community knowledge and networking in most parts of Australasia. (The rotten eggs are in the cities for us.)
I doubt you will see it in the news because they have not involved the press—I think they are too shaken after this. It’s a real slice-of-life incident so I don’t think it’s very funny. Short of the media, I may as well report it.
I will say I do not have the police’s side of the story. But I have no reason to doubt its veracity. It would be the same if you had come to me with this after it happened to a close family member.
Zak, I doubt this young man will go to the police for anything any more, and this incident has coloured his impression for the rest of his life. That is very sad. Evidently, this particular town in Missouri does not care for law-abiding citizens. These are everyday folks who could not afford to trouble a lawyer. Sure, they might be able to Google it, but in their shoes I would have gone to the local station as well.
