One blog post, many effects
It was pretty cool finding that Vox friend Musicchick2 highlighted in the ‘Neat Things on Vox’ box today. Her post was about the effects of her mentioning AnySoldier.com, which she recommended on her blog in April. Since then, another member took her advice and sent letters and a package to a Marine lance corporal. He was later killed in action and the connection that was made touched the reader deeply.
Musicchick2 was surprised that her blog entry had that effect. I’m sometimes surprised, too, that anyone beyond my immediate circle of friends (real and virtual) would care, too. But it does remind me that AnySoldier.com is a good little service: what I hear from Americans, regardless of whether they like their President or the War on Terror, is that they do support these young men and women doing their patriotic duty and putting their lives on the line. The website allows them to get in contact with one and let them know that they support him or her.
I had a few friends either serve or report from the front lines there, so I would have to say that the idea of a total stranger giving a darn would mean a lot to these men and women.
