New Zealand Post does not reply to letters
In November 2006, I sent some Lucires to Camille Sanson, an expat Kiwi photographer in London. They never arrived.
In December 2006, New Zealand Post sent me a letter saying that delivery could not be effected. The jargon given was ‘Not Called For’. I have no idea what that meant.
NZ Post then basically asked if I would pay the $90-plus to have it sent back to me, and I was to reply in 90 days.
I replied on December 28. I asked for an explanation of its jargon because I did not know what it meant. There was no problem with the address and Camille tells me there is no reason in the world Royal Mail could not have effected the delivery.
I sent the letter via the post. I received no response.
Last month, Camille reminded me of the letter. I decided to fax it, since it’s evident I cannot reply on the postal service. I received no response.
Camille emailed me again tonight. The 90 days are over. New Zealand Post had said that if nothing was done in 90 days, it would destroy the package.
But the package’s contents are irreplaceable. But I was not going to be blackmailed because either NZ Post or Royal Mail did not do its job.
So, the incident is now public.
I do not know why New Zealand Post could not answer my enquiries, and if it has destroyed the package, I shall look forward to shaming the entire organization. Below is an email I just sent via its site.
Ladies and Gentlemen:
Last year, you sent me a letter concerning a package that either NZ Post or Royal Mail failed to deliver to a UK address (scan attached). I replied by post (PDF attached) but received no reply. I faxed you, two months later, after being reminded by the addressee, and received no reply. Now, the addressee has asked me again. It's now past the deadline you gave me, but if you destroyed the package, I shall be very annoyed as its contents are irreplaceable. But since no one at NZ Post will bother replying to me, by post or by fax, what can I do? The least you could have done is respond to me.
So, I ask again: what is your intended resolution? Please do not give me the excuse that my letter was lost in the post (ha bloody ha), or the fax is still inside the machine. I want to know: what is the status of this package? Will you ever effect delivery? Will you even bother replying to me? What excuse do you wish to pull?
If the package has been destroyed, shall I name NZ Post as a defendant in the Disputes' Tribunal?
Yes, I am that annoyed, because no one has given a damn about this. So much for your "service".
Oh, I will publish this, if forced. We can all be bastards, or we can find a resolution together. I'd prefer you did the latter, and am hoping that this is "third time lucky".
Regards,
Jack Yan
