I am not Persuaded

Brad Pitt? In Steve's role? That is a sin.
Yes, that is the rumour. Let’s hope it never gets out of development. No man who has worn a skirt (Troy) should be able to replace Steve McQueen.
Agreed. I actually quite like Brad Pitt, he seems an okay guy and he does some good roles, but he's just not Steve McQueen. I have a thing about stars of the past (McQueen, Bogart, Flynn, etc) and not messing with what they already did so well. If they remake Casablanca (excluding the new bollywood version) there is a good chance a little bit of me will die.
Precisely, Pete. I’d be OK if Brad played a San Francisco cop. I’d even be OK if Brad played a San Francisco cop who drives a green Mustang. But call the guy Frank Bullitt or use the same source material, and I will be very, very upset. Sometimes I am OK with remakes—for instance I liked the new Fantasy Island with Malcolm McDowell—but tampering with classics is just asking for trouble.
I feel more upset by a Bullitt remake than I was with the Italian Job remake.
They did remake Casablanca once, and I think David Soul from Starsky & Hutch played Rick. Scary.
Yes. I have mixed feelings about the Italian Job remake as I actually quite enjoyed the film, I just didn't like it having that title. I thought it stood up as an entertaining movie, but the fact that it was pitched as The Italian Job was so galling as that is a classic they'll never better.

The thought of David Soul as Rick is truly, truly terrible.
I am with you. The 2003 Italian Job was a good film but the only Charlie Croker and Mr Bridger are Michael Caine and Noël Coward. Similarly, the Tom Cruise Mission: Impossible films. I liked the first and third ones but they should never have used the Jim Phelps character in the first.
The David Soul Casablanca only had one thing going for it: it used what was left of the original sets. Hector Elizondo was Capt Louis Renault and Scatman Crowthers was Sam. The rest isn’t worth a mention!
