The latter first ran in 1982 or 1983, I believe, and it continued into the late 1990s. I hope my friend Chloë, whom I met in 2002 but was actually at law school with prior to that, made heaps from the repeat fees.
I still have the colouring book somewhere. It was the one with the cartoons and the All Blacks, wasn’t it? I was surprised how many teenagers and early-20-somethings remember that second one. Chloë is my age, so that ad ran for a long time.
Yeah I think so! I might find it soon when I do some cleaning down the garage!
And as for that ad - I suppose it was so successful which made it worthwhile repeating! But I do remember it, maybe I was still a youngster when it was running on TV. You know what would be cool? If they ran ads that were in the past again - that will jog my memory of the brand for sure!
When I can recite names of All Blacks from the 1970s, it’s not because I watched games—it’s because of that darned colouring book! You know, old ads would work for me as well—which also proves how much better they were. Remember Double-A-M-U-T-U-A-L—‘we’ll make sure you’re OK’?
Those were the days we didn't care about our weight so much :)
I can't actually remember the KFC ad ... must be that couple of year gap. I definitely remember the Creme Egg ad. Amazing it ran for as long as it did. Well, not amazing - it was good!
I know! You wouldn’t draw the kids that way now (for marketing reasons), but looking back it was totally innocent. We will know we are old when we begin running into people who do not remember the Creme Egg ad.
Simon, you and I would be really old then! Scotty, my pleasure! The Kiwi jingle died a horrible death at the hands of a hypermarket chain here called the Warehouse, ‘where everyone gets a bargain,’ and thanks to globalization, sadly, our advertising is rather more like those abroad. Still, Kiwis are pretty creative and there are some gems here and there—somewhere on this blog is a current one for Lotto, which I think is very good.
‘I think they’re wonderful. They have so much courage! Here they are, hurling through space on a molten rock at 67,000 miles an hour, and the only thing that keeps them in their shoes is their misplaced faith in gravity.’—John Lithgow as Prof Dick Solomon, in Third Rock from the Sun

I don't remember the first one, although my older sister gave me a colouring book with the same cartoons - didn't know it was from KFC!
As for the second one, I TOTALLY remember that one! Oh does that bring back memories!
