Banned Google searches?
I was blogging about al-Jazeera except my browsers (both Maxthon and IE7) crashed on me—six times. Each time I was Googling the words Al Jazeera (with and without the hyphen).
I have searched for other terms using the Google Toolbar and at Google itself, successfully. The minute I fed in al-Jazeera, the entire browser crashed. But I do not know how to prove this, though Maxthon should have received half a dozen error reports from my IP address around this time.
I wasn’t even blogging that positive a review! I was saying that al-Jazeera had nice graphics, but that I was fed up with the previews.
But I can’t confirm whether the network prefers a hyphen or not, because Google seems to forbid this search! Now there’s a conspiracy theory …
Oh, this is regular Google I am talking about, but given that it restricts people inside Red China, then I am not surprised that it restricts people in other countries, too …

How weird! Thank you for checking. Qwerty, a reader of my main blog, successfully searched, too.
But I can’t be the only person this happens to … I have now managed to crash the browser nine more times since my Vox post, using two different computers, and using IE7, Firefox 2·0 and Maxthon 1·5. I’ve also found that I can crash the browsers by omitting the space and searching for aljazeera. However, I can access aljazeera.net domains without any problem.
I might try Yahoo! Search and some others and see what happens.
