Ayman al-Zawahri offers al-Qaeda’s first ’08 US election commentary
A day after I blogged about not hearing from al-Qaeda about the presidential election, along comes Ayman al-Zawahri, Osama bin Laden’s number-two man, commenting negatively about President-elect Barack Obama.
Do you think they can get this blog where they are?
All the message will do is unite Americans more than it will embolden al-Qaeda followers, who are already active. And from the terrorists’ point of view, it might have come because they see no change in the future Obama cabinet as Clinton loyalists begin getting posts.
My post yesterday was mostly meant in jest. And we still haven’t heard from the top man himself—so rather than speculate about whether Kim Jong Il is alive, shouldn’t we begin another round of rumours over Osama bin Laden? As I mentioned, he was active during the 2004 campaign—but there is not even an audio tape this time.
Timothy suspects that a possibility is that bin Laden is teaching political science at Berkeley.
