A US Life on Mars (LA pilot) critique

Comments

I'm doing my best to remain unspoiled. I made the same comparisons with the Office UK and Office US, but I ended up really liking the US version.

But then I have nightmares of Coupling and the never-seen Football Wives.

*shudder*

They decided not to do Spaced, but State of Play is still on...funny, I didn't notice Mr. Sam Tyler in the lead role in State of Play!

Let’s hope the US remake of the US remake will be better. I think The Office succeeded because of Gervais’s and Merchant’s continued involvement and it became its own show. Right now, this is an inferior copy. Do reserve judgement—what will air in the fall there will not be what I saw. State of Play never aired here (to my knowledge) so I might have to download or buy it. Philip Glenister is in it, too, playing a cop.

Yes! I did recognize the Gene Genie....it was just so odd that in all the times I've seen State of Play, I never picked up on John Simm. In any case, SoP is very much a buy. James McAvoy, David Morissey, Bill Nighy...it's full of top British talent. Buy it soon and watch it...I beg you!

Bill Nighy would be the other big reason to buy the DVD.
BTW I don’t recall Colm Meaney smoking in Life on Mars. So he does not fit the description of ‘an overweight, over-the-hill, nicotine-stained, borderline alcoholic homophobe, with a superiority complex and an unhealthy obsession with male bonding.’ That was another minus for the pilot.
